What is it?
Whether your criminal record is old or you have only recently received a caution or conviction, you may be experiencing fear or apprehension about the future. This is especially true if you are looking for a new job or a change of career.
Preparing to disclose a criminal record can be overwhelming and people may over or under disclose, unsure how to show the steps they’ve taken to turn their life around.
Our new three stage Support Plus programme provides one-to-one support to anybody who is looking for work but struggling with disclosure.
What does it include?
Stage 1 – Getting to know you
- You’ll speak with one of our trained advisors who’ll want to know more about your criminal record and the type of work you’re looking for.
- Based on this information, we’ll advise you on what to disclose and the impact your criminal record may have if you wish to work in certain sectors (for example working with children or other vulnerable groups).
Stage 2 – Thinking about disclosure
- We’ll provide you with guidance on writing a self-disclosure statement and give you some examples. You can then have a go at drafting your own statement.
- Your advisor will give you feedback on your draft statement and provide support with job searches. (We’re unable to find you a job or link you directly with employers).
Stage 3 – Practicing disclosure
- A further follow-up online meeting will be offered where you’ll be given the opportunity to practice your disclosure.
