Christopher Stacey LLB LLM | Director (Services)
Christopher is responsible for Unlock's funded and client-focused work, including:
- the UNLOCKing Banking project, which aims to set up basic bank account opening services for every prison in England & Wales that wants and needs one.
- developing our Employer Engagement work
- managing our client-focused work, which includes the Helpline, the Information Hub, the Online Forum and the Disclosure Calculator.
- overseeing the development of theRecord
Other activities include representing the charity at conferences, events and in the media.
Christopher joined the charity in 2008 as Member Service Co-ordinator, working to improve the access that people with convictions have to information and advice to help them overcome difficulties that they face living with a criminal record.
In his later role as Information & Advice Manager, he provided support to Unlock’s beneficiaries by establishing the innovative Information & Advice Service, which included a unique online Information Hub, providing unrivalled access to information for people with convictions on issues that affect them, such as access to insurance. He launched a unique online forum, forum.unlock.org.uk, for people with convictions to provide advice, information and support to one-another, and started Unlock’s monthly e-newsletter (which later became known as theRecord). He pioneered Unlock’s work around access to employment, including it's work around reforming the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the broader criminal record checking regime, and was responsible for developing www.disclosurecalculator.org.uk.
In his current role, Christopher is responsible for all aspects of Unlock's funded and client-focused work.
On a personal level, Christopher has a criminal record, having been convicted in October 2006 for theft and converting criminal property. He has first-hand experience of the problems that law-abiding people with convictions face when trying to move on with their life. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Prison Service Journal, and in 2010 he rang the London Marathon to raise money for Unlock; read more about that here.
Prior to joining the charity, Christopher graduated from the University of Hull in 2007, gaining a 2.1 in LLB Law, and followed this by completing an LLM Masters in Criminal Law and Criminal Justice at the University of Leeds, graduating in September 2008 with a Merit.
